Iona Foster architect is an Oxford based practice founded in 2012 following Iona’s 20-year career in the profession delivering award winning projects in public arts and education.
Her designs are robust and modern, reflecting the requirements of contemporary living and founded on permanent values which stand the test of time.
Design options are explored using a creative process of honing and refinement to achieve technical solutions which are economic and fit for purpose.
 
Working with an architect
We are client focused and deliver quality through a limited number of commissions.
We understand that a project to build or change your home can be daunting and that hiring the right architect for you and your project is key to the project’s success.
We can provide a full architectural service for all RIBA project stages from inception to project completion, advising on pricing, procurement and building contracts.
We refer to RIBA standards for appointment and fees.

Our first consultation is always free and usually followed up with a competitive fee quotation.
 
Collaboration
We collaborate with other consultants and industry experts, contractors and suppliers to provide best value and buildability. We can recommend excellent local consultants to advise and provide specialist design input.
We engage with all project stakeholders and strive for inclusivity and improved social value through our designs and working methods.

Low carbon design
We design to low carbon and passivhaus standards and to circular economy principles.
We understand the physics of retrofit and can advise on prioritizing interventions to deliver effective and best value energy savings.
 
Conservation
We are RIBA conservation registered and have specialist expertise and knowledge in the refurbishment and alteration of heritage buildings. We prepare heritage statements and impact assessments and negotiate with conservation planners to agree a heritage plan which delivers sustainable outcomes for our clients.

Our offices are located in Oxford and North Devon and we can provide services to surrounding areas, both rural and urban.
